To the MEP Engineers
It would surprise us to learn how few people in the design & construction industry actually know about the relationship between the Foodservice Consultant and Project Engineers. I would venture to say, even some of our competitors could not accurately describe it. As a co-member of the Architect’s design team, we understand the MEP Engineer is involved in all areas of the project, not just the kitchen.
We consider the MEP Engineer’s role as critical as the Project Architect. As the provider of foodservice equipment technical information, it is our responsibility to assure all information is complete and accurate when submitted. More importantly, this information must be provided in a timely manner, BEFORE the construction documents are issued. If not, this is the reason for drawing discrepancies found by the General Contractor and the subcontractors. Confusion and change orders follow.
Requiring plan approval from operations before issuing our drawings, reduces last minute changes that never make it into the MEP drawings.
Having read to this point, I am sure you are an experienced Engineer and familiar with the good, bad and ugly side of a consultant’s drawings. We hope to take a call from you or recommend IFDT as a project partner. We would also be happy answer any questions from design through construction. I am confident we will impress you.
Thank you,
Innovative Foodservice Design Team
